Habitat for Humanity
New Castle United Methodist Church
To build quality, affordable, and energy-efficient housing at no-profit through a combination of volunteer labor, "sweat equity", and zero-interest mortgages. We strive to empower individuals and our community in partnership with generous volunteers, small businesses, corporations, partner families, faith groups, and civic organizations.
History: Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1978 with a mission to reach out from Christian roots across denominational, faith, economic, and racial lines to bring together people who are concerned for their neighbors and their community. Since its founding, HFH International has built or restored more than 600,000 homes worldwide, serving more than 3 million people. Established in 1988, Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County has completed over 250 homes and ranks among the top three HFH Northeast affiliates (of 210 affiliates from Delaware to Maine) in terms of housing production. Our mission compels us to respond to an urgent and growing need for affordable housing in our community. To accomplish this mission, we have set a goal of building 21 homes a year over the next five years. This increased rate of house building has elevated our affiliate to "Community Builder" status, the largest growth rate for a Habitat affiliate, placing us among the top 5% of Habitat affiliates nationally.
